Mayor Prather addressed community leaders in the Boston subdivision on May 4th, 2017 at the Ed Davis Learning Center. Along with council member Connie Tackett, city personnel, and CDBG consultant Kriss Lowry, Mayor Prather began an open dialogue with residents of the Boston community about housing and how a Community Development Block Grant could potentially help revitalize the neighborhood. He emphasized the importance of having the residents of Boston identify the neighborhood’s most critical housing needs and tailoring the grant application to meet those needs. Kriss Lowry, who has more than 30 years experience writing and administering CDBG housing grants and is herself a resident of Scott County, explained the parameters of the Kentucky Small Cities CDBG program. She stressed that applying for CDBG grants is very competitive. It was generally agreed among attendees that applying for a grant during the current application cycle, which ends August 1, would not be practical. A series of community meetings will be held in the upcoming weeks and months to discuss further plans for applying for a grant next year.
